INFORMATION: Chinese New Year is a holiday and festival that celebrates the new year according to the Chinese lunar calendar. It is one of the most important holidays in Chinese culture. In relation to the holiday, the Chinese Zodiac is a traditional classification scheme based on the Chinese calendar that assigns an animal and its characteristics to each year within a 12-year cycle. This coming new year, 2024, welcomes the year of the Dragon.

To celebrate the Chinese new year, it is a tradition for red envelopes 红包(Hóngbāo), or red pockets, to be passed out by parents or elders to their children or grand-children. These envelopes most often contain money ranging from a couple dollars to hundreds of dollars.
The style of traditional Chinese New Year 红包 and decorations has been most often limited to red and gold ornate styles. 2024: Year of the Dragon aims to introduce a more contemporary visual style that gives younger generations more autonomy over their own culture and history.

By looking at contemporary Asian typography and graphic design styles, 2024: Year of the Dragon incorporates bolder typefaces and illustrations in a brighter color palette to create a more playful experience that diverges from tradition and welcomes change.
